On April 10th, 2024, Walailak University, in collaboration with the Na Mai Phai Subdistrict Administrative Organization and community leaders, conducted fieldwork to capture aerial images of the area surrounding the living weir in Na Mai Phai Subdistrict, Thung Song District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. This activity aimed to prepare data for comparing natural forest areas with water conservation by living weirs and natural forest areas without living weirs during the hot season.

From this fieldwork, the data will be analyzed and used as guidelines for operation, development activities, and enhancement of off-campus water management and conservation. The focus is on raising awareness among the populace regarding the importance of water management and conservation. Also, it aims to establish exemplary communities with strong water management and irrigation practices that do not negatively impact freshwater ecosystems. Additionally, community members will possess sustainable knowledge, understanding, and involvement in water management within the community.

This activity is part of the Living Weir for Developing Community to Sustainability (2024) Project, led by Mr. Suthira Thongkao. Also, it aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) – water management and hygiene, SDG14 (Life Below Water) – utilizing benefits from oceans and marine resources, and SDG17 (Partnerships for the Goals) – fostering cooperation with relevant networks and organizations.
