THA SALA, NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 2 August 2024 – Walailak University, under the leadership of Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonsak Sawusdee, Director of the Center for Academic Services (CAS), collaborated with the Tha Sala Ban Rao Group, Trash Hero Group, and the Ban Nai Thung Fisherfolk Association to host a marine educational event for students from Sitapatr School. This event aimed to raise awareness about the protection of local marine environments and resources while providing students with hands-on learning experiences related to the lives of local fishermen, marine species, and traditional fishing practices.

The event featured various activities, including fish extraction from nets, a waste management program, waste collection, discussions on the negative impacts on marine ecosystems, and the release of young blue swimming crabs into the sea. Additionally, Director Amonsak served as a key speaker, sharing valuable knowledge about the biology of blue crabs, the process of raising them during the zoeal (larval) stage, and responsible and sustainable fishing practices.

This initiative aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By fostering education on sustainable waste reduction and marine resource conservation, the event highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving long-term environmental sustainability.
