Walailak University Launches Comprehensive Programs to Support Female Students’ Well-being and Development

Walailak University, through its Division of Student Support and Development, organized a series of programs in 2024 aimed at promoting female students’ well-being, academic success, and personal growth. The initiatives combined mentoring, workshops, and health-focused activities to provide practical skills and continuous support throughout students’ university life.

The “Start with Change 2024” program, hosted by the Smile and Smart Center, offered mentoring on self-directed learning, stress management, anger control, and effective use of university support services. The interactive sessions allowed students to discuss personal and academic challenges with staff, fostering strong mentorship connections. A total of 2,339 female students, mostly first-year students, participated in the event.

The “Commentator Gen 1” public speaking workshop helped students gain confidence and communication skills. Through practical exercises, role-play, and peer feedback, participants learned techniques for managing nervousness and improving speech fluency. 95 female students attended this session.

Meanwhile, the Safe Driving Workshop trained 137 students in traffic regulations, accident prevention, and safe driving practices, including hands-on driving experience. Conducted three times per academic year, the workshop aims to reduce road accidents on campus and promote responsible driving.

The WU Tutor Center provided individualized academic support, enabling 1,723 female students to strengthen subject knowledge and improve performance. The center also encouraged peer mentoring, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

The Well-being Screening Scheme empowered 32 female students as campus health volunteers, teaching them to assess physical, mental, social, and intellectual well-being, and provide peer support across campus.

Additionally, the Smile Clinic, a long-standing initiative by the School of Nursing, continued offering free mental health mentoring. Focused on female students, the clinic helps build resilience and provides strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges.

Through these initiatives, Walailak University demonstrates its commitment to nurturing academic excellence, personal development, and a supportive campus environment for female students.

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Acting President of Walailak University, presided over the ceremony and warmly welcomed the attending scholarship sponsors who presented awards to the recipients.

In his address, Professor Dr. Sombat expressed profound appreciation to all donors for their continued generosity in supporting students’ education. He urged the awardees to uphold discipline, dedication, and perseverance in their studies, encouraging them to use this opportunity to achieve academic success and give back to society.

The event underscored Walailak University’s enduring dedication to promoting academic excellence and ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder students’ pursuit of higher education, promoting women’s access to higher education.
