WU Brings Ancient Culture to Life with Dance Performances and Digital Learning Tools

Walailak University participated in the 22nd Annual Cultural Art Festival of Higher Education held from February 23–25, 2024, at Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University, Mueang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The university presented three performance sets as follows:

  1. “Aarayacha Mokhalan Dance Performance” – Performed by students from the Walailak University Dance Club, this performance showcased the prosperity of the ancient Mokhalan civilization through creative choreography.
  2. “Lai Thom Muang Nakhon Dance” – This performance highlighted the distinctive craftsmanship of Nakhon Thon inlay work, reflecting the unique cultural identity of the region.
  3. “Naataya Boochaa Nora Songkhrueang Dance” – Performed by students majoring in Dance Education from the School of Education and Arts, this performance narrated the origin of Nora, a traditional Southern Thai performing art, through dance, poetry, and melodies that perfectly represent the cultural identity of Southern Thailand.

In addition, Walailak University organized an arts and culture exhibition, featuring the “NORA Walailak” learning program, which teaches the 12 Nora dance movements using Motion Capture technology, Hololens, and AR Nora Walailak, providing an innovative digital approach to learning traditional Southern Thai performing arts. The exhibition also included VR Tumpang, a virtual reality presentation of the Tumpang Archaeological Site located on the Walailak University campus, offering an immersive exploration of the historical site.

This forms part of Walailak University’s initiative to contribute to local arts, in terms of the number of annual public performances, in support of the SDGs, particularly SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
