On 20 August 2024, Walailak University commenced the construction of a new dedicated bicycle route to promote sustainable transportation and encourage healthy lifestyles among students, staff, and the local community. The route, located at the main entrance between the Administrative Building and the Center for Academic Services, is designed to provide a safe and accessible pathway for cyclists while also accommodating pedestrians.
The project demonstrates Walailak University’s strong commitment to expanding walkable and eco-friendly infrastructure across its campus. Upon completion, the total number of pedestrian routes at the university will increase to 57.
The new pathway is expected to serve as one of the major pedestrian routes, connecting the Administrative Building—home to more than 100 staff members and regularly visited by guests meeting with WU’s executives—with other key areas on campus. This development marks another step in the university’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable commuting and reduce carbon emissions.
This activity forms part of Walailak University’s initiative to prioritise pedestrian access on campus, in support of the SDGs, particularly SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
