On Friday, 15 December 2023, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Acting President of Walailak University, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chatchai Kanlayanapaphon, Acting Director of the WU Botanic Park, staff from the Division of Landscaping and Building, the Center for Smart Farming and Landscaping Architecture, and the Design Engineering Team, conducted an inspection of the orchid greenhouse at the Walailak University Botanic Park.

The visit focused on monitoring the construction progress and exhibition design for various orchid species. The greenhouse is planned to serve as a collection and display center for southern Thai bananas and beautiful orchids from across the country. The building is designed in the style of Phalaenopsis orchids and incorporates green materials and sustainable standards for a new building construction on campus, and other energy-saving features, such as clear fiberglass roof panels and metal sheets. Construction is scheduled for completion by January 2024.
