On 9 October 2024, Walailak University began the construction of the Research Excellence Building, a state-of-the-art facility designed in accordance with Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) standards. The building integrates a range of environmentally friendly features aimed at improving energy efficiency and promoting sustainable practices on campus.
The exterior of the building utilizes energy-efficient paint in light tones such as white and cream, which effectively reflect sunlight and reduce heat absorption. Certified for its high solar reflectance, the paint helps lower indoor temperatures—even in darker areas—thereby reducing reliance on air conditioning and artificial lighting, while also minimizing electricity consumption. Additionally, the use of light and heat-reflective colors creates a calm and comfortable atmosphere, with certain paint types being safe and health-friendly.
This activity forms part of Walailak University’s initiative to promote building new buildings to sustainable standards, particularly SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
