CAS Director Attending 2024 Asia Blue Swimming Crab FIP Manager Meeting

Between 8 – 9 May 2024, Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonsak Sawusdee, Director of the Center for Academic Services at Walailak University and a researcher under “The Blue Swimming Crab Fishery Improvement Project: BSC FIP”, attended the meeting of 2024 Asia BSC FIP Manager as a representative from Thailand. The meeting was organized by the NFI Crab Council at the Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn. Other representatives from Thailand were Mr.Tawatchai Poonchuay, an industry representative, Committee Member of the Thai Frozen Foods Association, and Chairman of the Subcommittee for Crab Products, along with Mr. Treerat Chaotawee, an advisor to the Subcommittee for Crab Products.

The meeting aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange and present progress updates on BSC FIP from different countries across Asia. Representatives from Sri Lanka, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand shared updates. The meeting also discussed future directions for NFI Crab Council’s support of blue swimming crab FIPs, with Thailand highlighting the expansion of the FIP area from Surat Thani Province to Nakhon Si Thammarat and Chumphon. This expansion aims to ensure sustainable management of blue swimming crab resources.

This activity forms part of Walailak University’s initiative to promote international collaboration and research, review comparative approaches, and develop international best practice on tackling the SDGs, particularly SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
