WU Welcomes Delegation from Saint Petersburg State University for Sustainable Development Activities

MUEANG, NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 16 April 2026 — The Center for Academic Services (CAS), Walailak University, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonsak Sawusdee, CAS Director, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laksanara Khwanchum, CAS Deputy Director, and CAS staff, warmly welcomed a delegation from Saint Petersburg State University, Russian Federation. The delegation was led by Mr. Nikolay Parfenenok, Deputy Dean for Youth Policy, School of International Relations, and included eight students.

The visit aimed to strengthen international collaboration and promote knowledge exchange on sustainable development. As part of the program, the delegation participated in community-based learning activities at the Blue Swimming Crab Bank in Ban Pak Phaya, Tha Sak Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The site serves as a local model for sustainable coastal and marine resource management, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

During the visit, the delegation observed the operations of the crab bank and attended a special lecture titled “The Success of the Blue Swimming Crab Bank in Thai and Global Contexts.” The session highlighted the vital role of local communities in restoring marine resources and enhancing food security.

Participants also engaged in hands-on conservation activities, including releasing juvenile blue swimming crabs, collecting cockles to learn about local livelihoods, and planting mangroves to support coastal ecosystem restoration. These activities fostered environmental awareness and promoted experiential learning within a real community setting.

This initiative reflects Walailak University’s commitment to fostering international partnerships, integrating academic knowledge with practical action, and collaborating closely with communities to advance sustainable development in a meaningful and impactful way.
