Walailak University and Thai Health Promotion Foundation Enhanced the Life Quality of the Elderly in Thai Buri Subdistrict

          On Thursday 1 July 2022, Lecturer Wanna Kumanjan of the School of Nursing and the staff from the Center for Academic Service had arranged a meeting with the aim of making the effort to propel the organization towards community well-being development for healthy life on the topic of “Developing the Life Quality of the Elderly” at Chumchon Sathit Walailak Phatthana Subdistrict Health Promotion Hospital, Thai Buri Subdistrict, Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat. There were elderlies, village headmen and the staff from the hospital participated in the meeting.

The event was supported by Thai Health Promotion Foundation aimed at developing the life quality of the elderly in all aspects, such as health, social condition, economic system and environment. In addition, it caused the driven model of communities in the field of sustainable development which complied with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Global Goals, a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by the year 2030.

The following were the Sustainable Development Goals which corresponded to the orientation of the event:

  1. 1. Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being

The goal was to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for the elderlies in the communities.

  1. 2. Goal 1: No Poverty

This goal was aimed at ending poverty in all its forms everywhere. Also, there were training sessions for the elderlies to build careers and have sufficient income.

  1. 3. Goal 17: Partnership for the Goals

Walailak University had established cooperation with various organizations in developing life quality.

Furthermore, it was the first year of the Chumchon Sathit Walailak Phatthana project which supported the mechanism of development, including potential development. There was the exchange of ideas with the communities and locals on the issue of developing the life quality of the elderly. Throughout the years, the staff had already collected the information. Lecturer Wanna Kumanjan, as a mentor, cooperated with the local mentors to hold a conference together to discuss the causes of the problems in developing the life quality of the elderly, various effects, capital, potential and needs of the elderly. The staff will take the data to analyze for developing all aspects, such as health, social condition, economic system and environment.
