Academic Service Center, Walailak University, Received a Budget to Support the Implementation of the 28th Marine Ecology Camp Project (Online)

                On September 7, 2021, Walailak University, Prof. Dr. Wanna Choorit, Vice President for Research and Social Services and Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonsak Sawasdee, Director of The Center for Academic Service, jointly received a budget to support the implementation of the 28th Marine Ecology Camp Project (Online) for 550,000 baht from Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd. In this regard, it was honored by Ms. Pholmai Jirayingphan, Manager of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Air Transport Center and Ms. Jiraporn Chotchuang, Senior Relations Officer representing executives handing over budgets to support the Ecology Camp project at Moklan Meeting Room, Walailak University.

Assistant Professor Dr. Amornsak Sawasdee, Director of The Center for Academic Service, detailed the project implementation and upcoming activities will be held during November – December 2021. The objective is to enable students to learn about interactions between living things and the marine environment, the mechanisms and processes to promote learning of scientific research processes, and to raise the awareness of the importance of ecosystems and conservation for the wise and sustainable utilization of marine resources. The target group is 50 graduate students who have been selected from various educational institutions across the country. The training format consists of:

  1. 1. Training Lectures: As part of the content, lectures will be provided by professors at various universities across the country with expertise including researchers and scientists of the Academy, the Marine Resources Research and Development Institute; Coastal and Mangrove Forests, Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, Department of Fisheries, and other related agencies.
  2. Workshop: There will have an exhibition, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises from experts in which the students can practice and enjoy at the same time, such as classifying aquatic animal samples, preserving invertebrates and vertebrates, taking samples for use in research, etc. And, there are also alternating activities to encourage students to exchange ideas.
  3. 3. Undertaking a small research project or seminar topic: After completing a lecture and practical session.

As such, Ms. Pholmai Jirayingphan and Prof. Dr.Wanna Choorit representing the executives of both organizations expressed gratitude for their cooperation in this project. The implementation of the Ecology Camp project this year was caused by a collaboration between Walailak University, where Academic Service Center received a budget to support the project from Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd. for 550,000 baht. On this subject, the academic service center had a role in public relations, recruiting and selecting project participants, and collaborating with professors, academics, researchers in marine resource management, marine ecology from the university, also related agencies from all over the country to meet the project objectives and maximize benefits to project participants.
