On 12 April 2022, Walailak University, represented by Ms. Ratchadaporn Boripun, DVM, Lecturer at Akkhararatchakumari Veterinary College, and the working group of the Center for Academic Service, organized a workshop on the manufacturing system planning and management of sows, alongside providing knowledge on the management for surveillance, prevention, and control of Brucellosis in Walailak Demonstration Community, Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Approximately 20 members of the community enterprise group participated in the workshop.

Additionally, Mr. Sanong Tongyod, Chair of the community enterprise group, passed on knowledge regarding pig fattening techniques, ideas, and tips for enhancing the production capacity of a piggery farm. The workshop ended with the water-pouring ceremony to ask for blessings and pay respect to the elders in the enterprise group on the occasion of Songkran 2022. The ceremony was held as an effort to promote Thai culture and the tradition of the Thai New Year.

The workshop is part of the project titled “The Manufacturing System Planning and Management of Swine under High-quality Process and Safety Standards”. The project has been continuously organized for 3 years with the aim of providing insights into the artificial insemination, care, and management of pregnant sows.

Furthermore, WU conducted the workshop in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, including SDG 1 No Poverty: End poverty in all its forms everywhere, SDG 2 Zero Hunger: Provide access to expertise and sustainable knowledge as well as technologies in agriculture to local farmers, and SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals: Establish cooperation with both the public and private sectors.
