          On Tuesday, 17 May 2022, Walailak University, represented by Miss Piriya Chonsut,  Miss Palika Wetchakul,  Dr. Sineenart Sanpinit, and  Dr. Thana Juckmeta, lecturers at the Thai Traditional Medicine, School of Medicine and the staff of the Center for Academic Service cooperated with the working group of Chumchon Sathit Walailak Phatthana Tambon Health Promotion Hospital to organize a workshop on Thai Traditional Medicine treatment for long-term effects of COVID-19 at Chumchon Sathit Walailak Phatthana Tambon Health Promotion Hospital, Thai Buri subdistrict, Tha Sala district, Nakhon Si Thammarat.

          The workshop is part of a social engagement project conducted by the Center for Academic Service that intends to focus on human resource development in the field of Thai Traditional Medicine knowledge, such as pharmaceutical science, medical treatment, and Thai traditional therapeutic massage and manipulation. The development aims to provide public health services to target groups, e.g., bedridden patients, patients with chronic diseases, and long-term COVID patients, and to support local wisdom as well as local herbs. In addition, Walailak University conducted the workshop in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, establishing cooperation with relevant agencies.

          During the workshop, Walailak University provided insights and knowledge on the COVID-19 self-care guide with Thai Traditional Medicine during admission and post-recovery periods to more than 30 village health volunteers in the community.

          The topics in the workshops include:

  1. Building immunity against COVID-19 with Thai herbs presented by Miss Palika Wetchakul.
  1. Thai Traditional Medicine Formulary for COVID-19 Treatment presented by Dr. Sineenart Sanpinit.
  1. The long-term effects of coronavirus and holistic healthcare for post-COVID-19 recovery presented                    by Miss Piriya Chonsut.
  1. Inhalation of herbal vapors for pulmonary rehabilitation presented by  Dr. Thana Juckmeta.

          In addition, Miss Chintana Wanthong, an officer of the Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicines Division, Thasala Hospital, provided comprehensive information on post-COVID-19 health rehabilitation with Thai Traditional Medicines. At the end of the workshop, the staff of Walailak University and Mr. Somchok Nongnual, Director of Chumchon Sathit Walailak Phatthana Tambon Health Promotion Hospital, discussed the potential development of human resources, including the future development plan to drive the hospital to be a hospital model for Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicines.
