WU and Partnership Networks Kick off the 29th Marine Ecology Online Course

          On November 12, 2022, the Center for Academic Services, Walailak University, and its partnership networks co-organized the event “the 29th Marine Ecology Online Course” via a Zoom meeting at the Research Building, the Center for Academic Services, Walailak University.

          The opening ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sarawoot Palipoch, Vice President of Walailak University, followed by a welcome speech by Ms. Vararin Vongpanich, a biodiversity specialist from the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, and a special speech by Ms. Pornsuree Konanta, Communications and Social Investment Manager at Chevron Thailand Exploration & Production, Ltd. The 29th Marine Ecology Online Course is a collaborative program between Walailak University and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources which is financially funded by Chevron Thailand Exploration & Production, Ltd. The course aims to disseminate knowledge of the interactions between marine biota and ecosystems, strengthen the potential of scientific research and raise awareness of the importance of marine ecosystems and the sustainable utilization of aquatic resources. It is held from November 12th through December 18th, 2022, with 56 students participating across Thailand and the world.

          Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonsak Sawusdee revealed that this momentous course covers special lectures and activities in which all participants can acquire knowledge on marine science and other related topics. 

Lectures

          The faculty members, researchers, and experts from institutes and universities provide special lectures on more than 19 topics related to marine science.

 

Practical Science Activities/Science Experiments

        – The collection and management of aquatic animal samples

       – The techniques for retouching and applying photographs in scientific work

       – Design of experiments in marine ecology

       – Writing scientific reports

 

 Group Discussion Activity

          All students are divided into 10 groups with advisors who teach problem-solving skills, data analysis, and the techniques of science presentation.

          On this occasion, Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonsak Sawusdee moderated a special talk on “The Research Directions for Enhancing Marine Resource Management in Thailand” with two special guests who are experts in marine science, namely Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thamasak Yeemin, President of the Marine Science Association of Thailand, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Thon Thamrongnawasawat, Lecturer at Kasetsart University.
