Walailak University joined hands with Thung Chon Sub-district Health Promotion Hospital and community enterprise group to continue the development of “Phlai Massage Oil” in order to achieve the standard of herbal products

          On April 10, 2023, Asst. Prof. Dr. Chaweewan Klongsiriwet, Ms. Chanakan Sitthisak, lecturers from the School of Pharmacy, the working team of the Center for Academic Services (CAS) partnered with staff of Ban Thung Chon Sub-District Health Promotion Hospital to discuss to enhance the product “Phlai Massage Oil” to the standard of herbal products by drafting the boundary of the Phlai Massage Oil production site and drafting a plan for planting and harvesting herbal raw materials in the community before preparing to apply for the standard.

          It has been the 4th consecutive year project titled “The Enhancement of Herbal Products to Promote Well-being and Occupation” with the mission of providing academic services to develop the communities surrounding Walailak University in a holistic way (WU – Social engagement), the fiscal year 2023. The project aims to apply the knowledge gained from the technology transferred from the project to produce local products to build the economic foundation of the community to be stable and sustainable by focusing on that the community can apply the knowledge to health care and create community participation in promoting the use of herbs in the area, concretely and sustainably as well as promote the development of comprehensive herbal products from upstream, midstream and downstream by promoting and developing the planting of herbal raw materials sources and raising the standard and product quality. The project is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, ensuring health and well-being of the elderly at the local and community level, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, establishing cooperation with relevant agencies.

          Since February 2023, the working teams brainstormed ideas about driving activities continuously, including the development of project proposals, planning and managing the production of Phlai Massage Oil products, Upskill/Reskill in Plai Massage Oil production process, promotion and development of planting of herbal raw materials in the community, application for the standard of herbal products to be upgraded to be herbal products of Ban Thung Chon Sub-district Health Promotion Hospital in the future.
