WUIC and CAS Kick off the 2nd Tha Sala – The Global Neighbor Project: Mobilizing SDGs through Free Vocational Training Event

WU THA SALA, 18 December 2023 – The Center for Academic Services (CAS) and Walailak University College (WUIC), represented by Dr. Suchita Manajit, Acting Associate Dean, and Dr. Konrawan Rattanaburi, collaboratively held a meeting to plan for organizing the 2nd Tha Sala – The Global Neighbor Project in the fiscal year 2024 at the office of WUIC, Architecture & Design Building, Walailak University.

The project has been organized continually with the purpose of providing free vocational training events on language skills for those communities around the campus based on the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (SDGs), especially for SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 1: No Poverty, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

In the fiscal year 2023, the project focused on promoting English literacy among the staff of the restaurant operators surrounding Walailak University through a workshop in which representatives from six restaurants participated in the event, including Ubrger, Kai Whan Baan Sushi, Cham Poon Halal Boat Noodles, Kum Peng, Loong Yai Steakhouse, and Kah Da Kai Zab. In addition, there were volunteer international students from Walailak University who helped the restaurants in various dimensions, e.g., staff’s English skills, menus, and signs, and translated the menus into English, and for some restaurants, third-language menus. All restaurants were given Tha Sala Global stickers identifying them as certified.

For the fiscal year 2024, the project aims to provide free vocational training events for restaurant operators both around and beyond the campus. Moreover, CAS and WUIC are planning to make the restaurant menus for all restaurants participating in the project in three languages, including Thai, English, and Chinese.
