Walailak University and Na Mai Pai SAO Organized a Repairing Activity for Living Weir

On March 16, 2024, Walailak University, in collaboration with Na Mai Pai Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO), organized a repairing activity for living weir to support water conservation off campus, promote awareness, enhance management for people of Na Mai Pai Subdistrict, Thung Song District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. This activity included analyzing basic data and current issues related to the construction of living weir to guide the development and improve the efficiency of water management and conservation efforts in the area by integrating with network building activities and increasing the efficiency of water management and conservation under “The Living Weir for Developing Community to Sustainability (2024) Project,” with Mr. Suthira Thongkao as the project leader.

During the activity, Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonsak Sawusdee, the Director of the Center for Academic Services at Walailak University, was honored as the report speaker, and the Chief Executive of Na Mai Pai Subdistrict Administrative Organization, delivered the welcoming speech for the event. The participants included members and representatives of the Na Mai Pai Sub-district Administrative Organization, the Department of Provincial Administration, community leaders, residents, and students, totaling more than 80 people.

This cooperation on water security between the university and government agencies aimed to emphasize the importance of water management and conservation through practical actions. Also, it aimed to create a strong community model for water and irrigation management without adversely affecting the freshwater ecosystem. Furthermore, the community gained sustainable knowledge and understanding, actively participating in water management within the community, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
