THA SALA, NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 3 July 2024 – Walailak University, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonsak Sawusdee, Director of the Center for Academic Services, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Onanong Cheablam, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laksanara Khwanchum, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Kamon Thinsurat, visited local communities in the Tha Sala and Mueang districts to produce video content for media relations related to the One-Day Trip Tourism Program of Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Coastal Communities. This initiative is part of the project “The Development of Low-Carbon Tourism Activities and Routes in Coastal Communities of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.”

The low-carbon tourism routes have been developed to offer a tourism option that reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and environmental impacts. These routes highlight sustainable fishing, aquaculture, and tourism programs, providing visitors with opportunities to learn about and experience the local way of life. The routes cover four coastal areas in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province: Pak Phaya Blue Swimming Crab Group, Pak Phun Blue Swimming Crab Group, Ban Leam Homestay Blue Swimming Crab Group, and Ban Nai Thung Blue Swimming Crab Learning Center.

Visitors participating in this program can engage in various activities, including local community bicycle tours, local cuisine tastings, rides on local solar-powered boats, mangrove forest planting, waste collection, and nature trail trekking. This project supports the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 14: Life Below Water, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by promoting sustainable aquatic tourism, reducing GHG emissions, and fostering collaboration to drive positive changes for the SDGs.
