THA SALA, Nakhon Si Thammarat, 9 September 2024 – The Center for Academic Services (CAS) led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonsak Sawusdee, Director of the Center for Academic Services, and the CAS team organized a meeting to prepare the “Development Plan for Coastal Areas and Low-Carbon Identity Tourism Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” at Hua Tapan Chamber, the Walailak University Hospital.
The event was presided over by Mr. Trairat Chairat, Deputy Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, with a welcome address delivered by Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Warit Jawjit, Vice President of Walailak University, outlined the purpose and goals of the development plan. The gathering saw active participation from Walailak University executives, government officials, members of local community enterprises, local residents, and the general public.
The meeting provided a platform for brainstorming between government organizations and local communities to collaboratively create strategies aimed at restoring marine coastal resources and ecosystems and stimulating local economic growth, including the establishment of blue swimming crab banks, marine protected area zoning for juvenile marine animals, and the enhancement of local fishery products. Additionally, it focused on promoting collaboration to develop low-carbon tourism routes that highlight the unique identities and cultural heritage of local coastal fishing communities in Nakhon Si Thammarat, including local beliefs and historical elements.
