On 15 November 2024, Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, presided over the opening ceremony of the 2024 Loy Krathong Festival. The event was organized to celebrate and preserve Thailand’s rich culture and traditions, drawing strong participation from university executives, faculty, students, and members of the local community at the Main Auditorium, Thaiburi Building, and Ploenta Lawn in front of the building.

The festival featured the Miss Noppamas and Miss Ladyboy pageants, celebrating and honoring the vibrant contributions of women and the LGBT community at Walailak University. The event also emphasized the use of eco-friendly materials in all festival activities.
