Walailak University Issues Policy on Marine Pollution Reduction to Strengthen Environmental Protection Efforts

4 October 2024, Nakhon Si Thammarat — Walailak University has officially issued its “Policy on Marine Pollution Reduction B.E. 2567 (2024)” to reinforce its commitment to environmental sustainability and marine ecosystem protection. Announced on 4 October 2024, the policy aims to strengthen measures for preventing and mitigating marine pollution from all sources, particularly those arising from land-based activities that pose significant risks to coastal and marine environments.

As one of Thailand’s leading higher education institutions, Walailak University recognizes its pivotal role in promoting responsible environmental management and aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14): Life Below Water. The policy establishes a comprehensive framework for monitoring, controlling, and reducing marine pollution, ensuring that the university’s operations and activities comply with both national and international environmental standards.

The new policy not only focuses on regulatory compliance but also highlights the importance of education, research, and community participation. By integrating marine pollution reduction concepts into its curricula, student projects, and community outreach programs, Walailak University seeks to raise awareness and inspire collective action among students, staff, and local residents.

Furthermore, the policy promotes the sustainable use and conservation of marine resources, helping to safeguard biodiversity and the livelihoods of communities that depend on healthy coastal ecosystems.
