Walailak Research Convention 2024 Commences, Highlighting Role of Universities in Enhancing Quality of Life in Turbulent Times

On 27 march 2024, Walailak Research Convention 2024, an annual international research conference hosted by Walailak University, has commenced to celebrate the university’s 32nd anniversary. The event, themed “Roles of Higher Education in the Turbulent World,” took place at the Pattarathammaporn Chamber, Walailak University Hospital.

The event featured researchers from around the globe, such as the USA, Japan, New Zealand, Finland, Poland, Russia, Palestine, Malaysia, and South Korea, as well as staff, students, and the public, who joined via live streaming on the Walailak Channel Facebook page.

Associate Prof. Dr. Pattamawadee Pochanukul, President of TSRI, opened the conference, highlighting the importance of transdisciplinary research, lifelong learning, and universities’ role in developing a skilled workforce amid societal and technological changes.

Professor Chris Rudd OBE, Deputy Vice Chancellor of James Cook University Singapore, emphasized educational leadership in promoting truth, transparency, internationalism, and freedom of speech.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pongpan Kaewtatip, TSRI Vice President, presented TSRI’s 2023–2027 plan for Thai universities, focusing on carbon neutrality and improving quality of life, urging researchers to maximize societal impact.

During the panel, Mr. Sarin KC of HITAP highlighted the role of research in guiding policy and improving public health outcomes.

This activity forms part of Walailak University’s initiative to promote cross-sectoral dialogue about the SDGs for sustainable development.
