On 5 May 2024, Walailak University has opened a special exhibition on Nielloware in the Style of Nakhon Si Thammarat at the Thai Buri Building, inviting the public to explore the province’s rich artistic heritage free of charge.
Nakhon Si Thammarat is widely recognized for its exquisite nielloware craftsmanship, a traditional fine art that dates back to the period of the Ligor Empire. To help preserve and promote this valuable cultural legacy, the university has curated a dedicated exhibition space that highlights the distinctive techniques and intricate designs unique to the region’s nielloware.
The exhibition provides students, researchers, and visitors with a meaningful opportunity to admire the beauty and historical importance of this centuries-old craft. Beyond preservation, it also serves as an educational platform that deepens understanding of local cultural identity and inspires younger generations to appreciate and sustain Thailand’s traditional arts.
Walailak University’s initiative underscores its ongoing commitment to conserving regional culture and promoting community engagement through education and the arts.
