Walailak University Integrates Multidisciplinary Expertise to Develop Chumchon Mai School as a Model for Sustainable Education

Walailak University, through faculty members from various schools, including the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Science, the School of Management, and the School of Accounting and Finance, together with the Center for Academic Services team, recently met with teachers from Chumchon Mai School to exchange ideas and jointly design activities under the Social Engagement Project. The discussion aimed to ensure that project activities align with the needs of the school and the local community context under the “Integrated Multidisciplinary Programs for Sustainable Educational Outreach to Communities Surrounding the University.”

The meeting focused on collaboratively developing activities based on the school’s actual needs, encompassing academic, vocational, and life skills development for students. Through hands-on learning experiences, the project will be integrated with the “Young Ambassadors for Sufficiency Economy Camp.” Planned activities include the development of examination materials and innovative teaching and learning media, interpretation and communication through learning stations based on the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, and the promotion of vocational skills through agricultural product processing using local community resources.

In addition, English-language learning materials will be incorporated into practical cooking activities featuring local signature dishes, providing students with opportunities to participate in vocational skills competitions. The project also promotes waste management through organic compost production and lettuce cultivation using STEM-based learning approaches. These activities are designed to create a systematic learning process that can be further developed into a safe agriculture learning center within the school, ultimately serving as a model for sustainable education.

This initiative reflects Walailak University’s proactive role in working closely with educational institutions and surrounding communities through the integration of multidisciplinary knowledge. The project aims to enhance the capacities of both students and teachers, expand learning opportunities, and improve the quality of life in communities surrounding the university in a sustainable manner. Also, the initiative contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. It also supports the WU HAPPY TREE framework, particularly in the areas of Education and Career Development.
