THA SALA, NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 26 August 2026 —  Walailak University (WU), led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Panatda Pibul, a lecturer and researcher from the School of Public Health, together with students from the School, organized a community outreach activity on organic and food waste management. Entitled “Zero Waste Community: A Recycling and Organic Waste Management System for Sustainable Global Warming Reduction,” the activity was held for members of the Ban Nai Thung Blue Swimming Crab Bank Learning Center in Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

The activity aimed to enhance community knowledge and understanding of effective approaches to separating and managing organic waste, particularly food waste, seafood residues, and waste generated from fishing activities, which are significant sources of organic waste in the area. Participants also learned about the relationship between organic waste and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as their contribution to global warming and climate change.

As part of the program, participants were introduced to materials used in the composting process, including plastic containers, animal manure, organic fertilizer, organic residues, and leaves. These materials help promote effective decomposition and allow the resulting compost to be reused beneficially. The activity also included a practical demonstration on the installation and use of an environmentally friendly composting bin which enables organic waste to be transformed into useful resources. Composting bins were subsequently provided to the community for continued use.
