NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 20 August 2026 — Walailak University (WU), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laksanara Khwanchum, Deputy Director of the Center for Academic Services (CAS); Asst. Prof. Dr. Chuthamat Rattikansukha, lecturer and researcher at the School of Languages and General Education; Dr. Choosak Rittiphet, lecturer and researcher at the School of Engineering and Technology; together with WU students, conducted a field visit under the project “Green WU to Ban Laem Homestay Community Tourism Enterprise”
The project focused on surveying and assessing the feasibility of installing a solar power generation system at the community water supply production facility. The project team examined the site conditions, existing systems and equipment, energy consumption patterns, and electricity demand to gather information for designing a solar power system that is appropriate for the local context and actual operational needs.
The team and experts also surveyed potential areas for solar panel installation and exchanged information with community members regarding energy use, challenges, limitations, and specific needs in the area. These discussions will support the development of an effective renewable energy approach that maximizes benefits for the community.
The information collected will be used to analyze and develop appropriate guidelines for integrating clean energy into the community water supply system. The initiative aims to reduce reliance on electricity from the main grid, lower energy costs, and minimize long-term environmental impacts, while promoting efficient and sustainable resource management.
In addition, the team followed up on previous project activities and discussed plans to develop a campaign in collaboration with the Ban Laem Homestay community group. The campaign will aim to raise awareness and encourage tourists and community members to participate in environmental conservation, efficient resource use, and responsible tourism practices.
The implementation of the “Green WU to Ban Laem Homestay Community Tourism Enterprise” project represents another important effort by Walailak University to integrate academic knowledge and expertise with community engagement and social service. The project not only promotes the adoption of clean energy and environmental conservation but also strengthens the capacity of the local tourism enterprise, supporting its development toward becoming a green, environmentally responsible, and sustainable tourism community in the future.
