MUEANG, NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 5 September 2026 — Walailak University (WU), led by Asst. Prof. Alisara Saramolee and Asst. Prof. Watcharawat Promma from the School of Accountancy and Finance, in collaboration with the Foundation for Public Policy and Good Governance and the Buddhadasa Indapanno Archives Foundation, visited Wang Tawan Tok Temple to conduct the project closeout for the Good Governance-Based Buddhist Temple Management Project. The temple’s working team attended the session and listened to a summary of the project’s outcomes.
The Good Governance-Based Buddhist Temple Management Project was implemented during 2024–2025 through collaboration among Walailak University, the Foundation for Public Policy and Good Governance, and the Buddhadasa Indapanno Archives, with funding support from the Thai CG Fund. The project aimed to help temples establish effective management systems based on nine good governance principles for temple administration. As part of the project, accounting systems and internal controls were developed for four pilot temples in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.
Following the Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand’s guidelines on temple accounting and financial management, as well as the Revenue Department’s announcement requiring donations eligible for tax deductions to be processed through the e-Donation system, the four pilot temples needed to improve their accounting systems, bank account arrangements, e-Donation readiness, and capacity to support audits by relevant authorities. The Academic Service Center and the School of Accountancy and Finance at Walailak University therefore expanded the project to develop accounting and internal control systems that comply with the new regulations. The initiative aims to strengthen transparency and good governance, maintain the trust of Buddhist devotees, support sustainable development, and establish a model that can be replicated by other temples in the future. It also integrates teaching, research, and academic services through a Social Engagement approach.
The project team conducted field visits to collect data and listen to the problems and needs of abbots, temple committees, and accounting staff. This information was used to design accounting systems and supporting documentation appropriate to internal control principles. The team also developed an accounting and internal control manual and organized training activities to provide temple staff with knowledge of accounting systems and internal controls.
For Wang Tawan Tok Temple, all activities have now been successfully completed, and the accounting and internal control manual has been officially handed over to the temple.
The project also contributes comprehensively to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by strengthening collaboration among the university, temples, and local communities.
