Promoting and developing skills, knowledge, and abilities in science and technology of youth in Southern Thailand : Young Scientist Competition: YSC

                With the awareness of and the emphasize on the potential developments of young people in order to develop innovative creativity regarding sciences and technologies; the National Science and Technology Development Agency, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, conducts YSC (Young Scientist Competition). The purposes of the competition are to provide opportunities to the young people in Thailand in develop their knowledge and skills about sciences and technologies, to create innovations and to drive them to be globally accepted.

          The Center of Academic Service, Walailak University is the regional coordination center (southern) conducting the competition. There are about 1,000 competitors from 100 schools in each year. There are about 300 – 500 projects in nine fields from 14 provinces in the southern Thailand in each year. The center selects 40 – 50 projects per year for giving funds for developing the projects and competing at the regional and national levels. The projects will be developed with trainings, the suggestions from instructors from the university and the services and facilities in the university in order to analyze or test experiments of the qualified project developers, and the supports in world-class competitions. There are the students passing the trainings and competitions responsible by the center who receive many national and international awards. The university is considered as an organization driving the communities in the southern and providing knowledge for the young people at the regional level.
