Walailak University believes that education for sustainable development offers an inclusive approach that promotes sustainability competencies in students. Such competencies are considered crucial for the 21st-century workforce. The sustainable educational atmosphere raises learners’ awareness and fosters a sustainability culture that leads to self-development, skills enhancement, and priority in sustainability.  

Walailak University strives towards the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. One of its primary missions is to create a new strategy for incorporating Sustainable Development Goals into the curriculum. In the academic year 2021, Walailak University updated its general education curriculum with Sustainable Development Goals to raise students’ awareness of environmental conservation, sustainable use of natural resources and energy, waste and hazardous waste management, climate change, and international collaborations addressing climate change. 

Moreover, Walailak University aims to equip graduates with a better understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals, the 20-Year National Strategy, and the National Economic and Social Development Plan. In 2021, as many as 545 courses with 2,460 modules at Walailak University emphasized sustainability-integrated content. In the future, Walailak University will adopt a more holistic approach to education to produce graduates who genuinely understand the immediacy of environmental responsibility.
