Walailak University and the Education for SDGs : Specific course on sustainability

        Walailak University is determined to be a sustainable university for all. Since 2016, it has been offering specialization and professional foundation courses in bachelor’s and master’s degrees, both special courses and full-time courses. These courses aim to support students to integrate what they study with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, 20-Year National Strategy, and the National Economic and Social Development Plan. The courses include:

Bachelor degrees (Trimester System)

  1. THB60-11 Sustainable Tourism. It is the course offered in the academic year 2021 semester 1 and 3.

This course aims for students to study the concepts and principles of sustainable tourism; regulations, planning, and monitoring of sustainable tourism management, especially operational analysis of tourism and hotel businesses; components and types of sustainable tourism; tourism impact and sustainable tourism development strategies; and includes an educational field-work.

  1. MKT62-315 Venture Growth Strategy for Sustainability. It is the course offered in the academic year 2021 semester 3.

This course covers the concepts of sustainable business growth strategy, funding and customer value management for venture growth, and competitive advantage creation. Students have to understand the process of developing business’s skills and competences for sustainable growth, including change management to handle change dynamic of current business environment.

  1. ARC59-353 Sustainable Architectural and Urban Design. It is the course offered in the academic year 2021 semester 1.

Basic concepts of environmental design for different related levels: from city and community to neighborhood and specific sites; study the environmental crisis, as well as lessons from vernacular architecture that were climate responsive and environmentally concerned leading to sustainable architecture and urban design; principles of tropical buildings and urban design which are shaped by nature and influential factors that set the comfort zone.

  1. OCC61-314 Sustainable Community Health Management. It is the course offered in the academic year 2021 semester 2.

Concepts of community health development by applying of holistic paradigm; community practice with the application of community-based study and community health management; participatory development in public health, focusing on environmental health and occupational health, and harmonizing with community need and demand.

  1. 5. OCC62-315 Sustainable Occupational and Community Health Management. It is the course offered in the academic year 2021 semester 3.

This course provides concepts of primary of occupational and community health development by applying of holistic paradigm; community practice with the application of community-based study and community health management; participatory development in safety, occupational and public health, and harmonizing with community need and demand.

 

Master degrees (Special Program)

  1. ESH61-614 Sustainable Industrial Management. It is the course offered in the academic year 2021 semester 2.

History of industrial development in Thailand, concept of sustainable development and industrial ecology, tools in environmental management system for industry, clean technology, life cycle assessment, economic tools in industrial management, indicator of sustainable development.

 

Master degrees (Semester System)

  1. MNM63-613 Sustainability for Business Management. It is the course offered in the academic year 2021 semester 2.

This subject explores the challenges and opportunities facing entrepreneurships in the area of environmental, socio-cultural and economic for sustainable business management. Introduction of sustainability business will be provided at the beginning. Topics included are sustainable environmental design, sustainable organizational immersion, sustainable value chains and communications for businesses. Various business management approaches from successful entrepreneurs will be employed as the case study so that students can design, plan, and develop projects for sustainable business initiatives.
