Delivering Project to Preserve Intangible Local and National Cultural Heritage by Creating Nora Online Course
Walailak University partners with the Department of Cultural Promotion of Ministry of Culture to create a Nora online course. Nora has been declared on “the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.” The course is under the key strategies of raising awareness and perception of Nara. Also, it is under the essential process of changing the way of promoting arts and culture following the Covid-19 epidemic.
The objectives for creating the Nora online course are in line with general guidelines to safeguard documentary heritage of UNESCO. The details are as follows:
- To build a body of knowledge about Nora through online learning, which is consistent with Strategy 2, Raising awareness
- To preserve and promote the dissemination of Nora Performing Arts, creating pride in the value of the national and local cultural heritage, which is consistent with Strategy 3, Preservation.
- To enhance the Basic Nora Performing Arts for Youth course for all young people to study thoroughly in online learning, which is consistent with Strategy 4, Access.
The Nora online course is free and can be accessed at https://acc.wu.ac.th. It consists of 4 courses: 1. Nora Dance Course, 2. Nora Music Course, 3. Nora Vocal Performance Course, 4. Pran Nora (hunter figure in Nora).
This Nora online course creation project aims to promote and preserve local and national artistic and cultural heritage under University Vision: to be an institution of good governance, a source of knowledge for critical problems facing the nation, to unfailingly address community needs, and to strive for international recognition for excellence. WU gives precedence to the preservation and promotion of artistic and cultural heritage continuously and sustainably amid social change; the group of Nora was born, leading to the process of disseminating and preserving art and culture sustainably.
