Promoting the Role of Women at Walailak University

Walailak University has a policy about recruitment and accepting students without sexual discrimination because the university focuses on gender equality. The qualifications for applications and acceptance have no gender indication in any case. According to the statistics of the number of students at all levels in the academic year 2021, it was found that the percentage of female students (7,018 students) was approximately 2.6 times more than male students (2,687 students). Similarly, the percentage of female employees (1,345) was approximately 1.5 times more than male employees (870). It can be concluded that Walailak University has opened up opportunities for women to access work and the education system without discrimination.

         Moreover, the university promotes women’s roles, such as allowing women to be elected as presidents of student organizations, having female student committee, and encouraging female students to receive awards. In addition, the university provides career advancement opportunities that promote women’s participation with equal opportunities. They can be a leader at any level based on their capabilities, such as the head of the department and executives at both the faculty and university levels, so it can be seen that there are many female deans at Walailak University.

         Furthermore, the university places importance on the body of knowledge to develop the role of women, so the Center of Excellence in Women and Social Security was established to promote women’s knowledge management and the development of security policy proposals.
