The Provision of Scholarships to Students with the Lack of Funds
Walailak University provides scholarships and grants for living expenses to support Thai students with the lack of funds or from low-income backgrounds to be able to complete their studies. The university’s policy is to prevent students from having to drop out due to the lack of financial resources. This is to guarantee that Walailak University provides equal educational opportunities. The types of scholarships include:
- Annual general scholarship
- Continuing general scholarship until graduation
Throughout the academic year 2021, 955 students with the lack of funds received scholarships totaling 59,841,842 baht, funded by the university and external funding sources such as alumni, philanthropists, government agencies, the private sector, and local civil society, etc.
In addition, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Walailak University set up relief measures to ease the financial stress of parents and students in the academic year 2020-2021. The measures include a tuition fee waiver scheme in the amount of 78.9 million baht, the establishment of education funds for students borrowing without interest in the amount of 14 million baht, and the reduction of dormitory fees in the amount of 12.5 million baht.
