Zero emission vehicles (ZEV) Policy on campus

The University has transitioned to electric vehicles for its fleet, including minibuses, delivery vans, and security vehicles, significantly reducing reliance on combustion fuels. In 2024,
Walailak University successfully reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 47.31 tons of carbondioxide equivalent through the use of electric vehicles (Ref. Low emission support scheme, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization).

Reducing Motorcycle Use

The university has a campaign aimed at reducing motorcycle use among first-year students by providing bus services both on and off campus. Additionally, there are public transportation options such as vans and minibuses for those needing to travel to town daily. This initiative seeks to lower motorcycle accidents while supporting the use of electric motorcycles, with charging stations available throughout the campus.

Promoting Biking and Walking

Walailak University encourages students to bike and walk short distances within the study area through a pathway known as the “Cover Way.” This path was designed to connect various buildings in the academic area. Traveling by bike and on foot promotes health and reduces air pollution.

Carpooling for Staff

This policy supports staff commuting via a carpool system, with electric shuttle buses provided for staff. During campus events, staff can easily travel to locations, thereby reducing personal vehicle use.

Electric Bikes for Staff in Remote Areas

For staff working in remote areas, the university will provide electric bikes to facilitate convenient transportation, enabling staff to travel quickly while reducing emissions.

Electric Shuttle Bus Service on Campus

Students and staff can utilize the electric shuttle bus service within the university, enhancing convenience in transportation and promoting the use of eco-friendly vehicles.
