WU Supporting Non-Discrimination and Inclusion for Transgender People
Walailak University (WU) reaffirmed its dedication to promoting inclusivity and respect for all genders by issuing its Policy on Gender Equality, Non-Discrimination, and Anti-Harassment. This policy highlights WU’s unwavering commitment to eradicating discrimination and harassment against all genders, including transgender people.
In 2024, the university sent a delegation of LGBTQ+ students to participate in The Transgender Nakhon Si Thammarat University 2023, held in 2024. This event serves as a space to celebrate the achievements and contributions of transgender individuals in higher education and beyond. WU’s participation in such events demonstrates its solidarity with the LGBTQ+.
Another initiative to celebrate gender diversity is the annual Miss Lady Boy Competition, which has been a vibrant tradition for years. This event provides a platform for members of transgender students and staff to showcase their talents. It symbolizes the university’s embrace of diversity and its efforts to cultivate a welcoming environment for all genders. The event was held at Thai Buri Hall in 2024, drawing a large audience that included the WU president, vice presidents, faculty, staff, students, and members of the public. The event created a festive atmosphere where transgender people at WU could celebrate their identity and express themselves freely.
Through the policy and competitions, LGBTQ+ individuals, especially transgender people, gain more than just visibility—they find affirmation, respect, and opportunities to express themselves without fear of discrimination. These efforts empower LGBTQ+ students to celebrate their identities and talents, fostering a sense of belonging and pride within the university community.
