Walailak University Launches Initiative to Ban Foam Food Containers and Reduce Plastic Usage on Campus

In 2025, Walailak University organized a campaign to ban the use of foam food containers and to reduce or eliminate plastic usage within the campus. The events took place at the Chor Pradu Food Center and the Chan Pradu Night Market. Representatives from student groups voluntarily participated in the campaign, promoting the reduction of plastic bag usage, encouraging the use of personal cups and cloth bags instead of plastic grocery bags, and raising vendors’ awareness across various areas including the Chor Pradu Food Center, Student Activities Building’s Food Center, Walailak University Hospital’s Food Center, Chan Pradu Night Market, Bota Market, and other shops within the university, to cease providing plastic carry bags.
This initiative demonstrates student involvement in sustainability efforts, aligning with the university’s policy to ban foam food containers and reduce plastic usage. It promotes sustainable production and consumption, proper waste and hazardous waste management, and aims to reduce pollution that is harmful to humans and the environment. Additionally, the campaign encourages responsible consumption, driving the university towards becoming a green institution with policy management in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
