Planning, implementation, monitoring and/or evaluation of all programs related to Energy and Climate Change through the utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

Walailak University has integrated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into its planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs related to energy and climate change.

Planning

  • Walailak University established the Carbon Neutrality Steering Committee and formulated the Carbon Neutrality Action Plan to integrate ICT in managing energy and climate change programs. Coordination meetings are held onsite and via Zoom to align strategic objectives.

Subject: The Committee on Sustainable Development Mobilization. (Walailak University, Thailand)

Walailak University Carbon Neutrality Steering Committee holds monthly onsite or Zoom coordination meetings to plan and review activities related to energy management and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction strategies.

Implementation

  • Key programs include monitoring electricity consumption through a digital dashboard, conducting annual GHG emission assessments, and tracking renewable energy generation using an ICT-based monitoring system. The university also deploys the Smart WU University system, including WU Smart Life App, e-Meeting management, e-Car booking for smart transportation, Digital Office Management System (DOMs), Human Resource Management System (HRMs), e-Learning platforms, and Wi-Fi-based air conditioning control. These systems optimize energy use, reduce carbon emissions, and improve operational efficiency.

The Smart WU University system.

  • Walailak University has been instrumental in reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions through several innovative initiatives. By promoting digital solutions, the system significantly minimizes reliance on paper, leading to decreased energy usage associated with paper production and disposal. The integration of tools such as the DOMs system for intra- and inter-university correspondence has streamlined communication processes, reducing the need for physical documents and consequently lowering transportation-related emissions. Additionally, the E-car system for car reservations encourages carpooling and efficient vehicle usage, contributing to reduced fossil fuel consumption and emissions. Moreover, the Human Resource Management System (HRMS) for personnel workload management optimizes resource allocation and enhances operational efficiency, further decreasing energy usage within the university. By leveraging these technologies, Walailak University not only enhances administrative efficiency but also actively supports sustainability goals by significantly curtailing energy use and minimizing its carbon footprint. Through these initiatives, the Smart WU University system aligns with the university’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality and fostering a sustainable campus environment.

ICT-Based Energy and Climate Change Management Programs

Walailak University has implemented and continuously improved programs on energy and climate change management through Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The Carbon Neutrality Steering Committee was established and developed the Carbon Neutrality Action Plan, integrating ICT in energy management to achieve carbon reduction targets.

Key ICT-based programs include digital dashboards for electricity consumption monitoring, annual GHG emission assessments, and renewable energy tracking systems. The Smart WU University system—comprising WU Smart Life App, e-Meeting system, e-Car booking, DOMS, HRMS, e-Learning, and Wi-Fi-based air conditioning control—enhances energy efficiency, optimizes operational management, and reduces carbon emissions.

Energy consumption and renewable energy performance are monitored through real-time dashboards, with quarterly evaluations ensuring data accuracy, transparency, and policy effectiveness.

Currently, the university is enhancing an integrated ICT system for comprehensive energy and carbon data management, including real-time solar energy monitoring for the Solar Floating and Solar Carpark projects. These innovations strengthen data-driven decision-making and contribute to sustainable campus development.
