        In 2025, Walailak University organized 24 cultural activities encompassing cultural festivals, theatrical performances, music shows, and various exhibitions. These events were held both on campus and in publicly accessible green spaces, generating positive environmental impacts around the university and providing opportunities for community engagement.

Walailak University held the annual “Tumpang Merit-Making Ceremony” for the year 2025 to promote

the appreciation of cultural heritage and long-standing beliefs among students and staff. The ceremony aimed

to honor these traditions, which have been part of Thai society for generations, and to pay respect to the sacred

entities of the university for good fortune. The event took place at the Tumpang Ancient Site on the university

campus.

  • Walailak Songkran Festival continues the tradition for 2025, pouring water over the heads of the elderly in

the communities surrounding the university, April 9 2025

Walailak University organized the 2025 Songkran Festival to preserve the Thai New Year tradition. Over 500 people attended the event, including 70 elderly members from neighboring communities. Activities included Buddha bathing, pouring water over the hands of elders to receive blessings, traditional Thai dance

performances, and a communal meal. The festival helped strengthen the relationship between the university

and the local community, while also preserving Thai traditions, fostering unity, and promoting mutual respect.

Walailak University organized an annual event to carry on the tradition of the fire almsgiving ceremony and alms-giving to welcome the New Year in 2025. This unique tradition of Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Buddhists was held at the Dharma Lawn, Cho Pradu Food Center, Walailak University, to foster awareness among staff and students of the value and significance of this cherished tradition.

In a heartwarming ceremony, student representatives from WUIC came together today to participate in the traditional “Wai Kru” ceremony. The event aimed to honor and express gratitude to their teachers while

also immersing themselves in Thai culture.

This event was organized to welcome Ramadan, the holy month for Muslims, with the aim of bringing

the Muslim community at the university together for religious activities, social gatherings, and building strong

relationships. The event featured various activities, including religious lectures about Ramadan, shared meals,

cultural performances, and other activities aligned with Islamic traditions. This event not only allowed Muslims

to fully practice their faith but also helped raise awareness and understanding of Islam among students and

staff at the university.

The Center for International Affairs in collaboration with international staff and students organized

International Food Festival activity at the Bota Market of WU Botanic Park. Professor Dr. Sombat

Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University presided over the food festival event to give the

welcoming and opening speech. Also present at the event were Associate Professor Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice-

President and Assistant Professor Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, Director of the Center for International Affairs Center

to welcome and taste international foods prepared by WU international staff and students. There were over 60

staff and students attended the food festival.

  • Christmas and New Year events 2024

The Center for Cultural and Sports Promotion, in collaboration with the Christian Club of Walailak University, organized a Christmas and New Year celebration at Architecture and Design building. This event aimed to foster relationships and mutual understanding among students, faculty, and staff, promoting intercultural understanding and acceptance. It also served to connect members of the university community.

The event featured performances by the Life Stream Church of Surat Thani, classical music, and performances by student clubs such as the Christian Club, Ensemble Club, Cover Dance Club, and International Music Club.Over 350 students and staff attended the event.

Students from the Walailak University Thai Dancing Club participated in the flag handover ceremony forthe Thailand University Personnel Games, where the university will host the 41st Games, “Tumpang Games

2025,” at Walailak University, Nakhon Si Thammarat. Their performance, titled “Nora: The Southern Performing Art,” showcased the unique identity of Southern Thailand, blending both art and tradition in perfect harmony
