The Affordable Housing for Employees at WU

Walailak University through the Division of Student Support and Development provides affordable housing for employees to facilitate convenient and cost-effective lodging and commuting for those engaged in their duties. In addition, WU has a measure to evaluate the affordability of staff, provided housing directly and financial support.  

The university supports rent fees for employees living outside university housing. These welfares are following ‘Walailak University 3-Year Strategic Plan (2020-2022)’, ‘Thai government 20-Year National Strategy (2017-2036), and 5th strategic issue: creating a green university of happiness by Walailak University in order to achieve ‘Residential University’ goal. Additionally, on condition the university accommodations are not available, the university will provide approximate rental fees for employees who live at other residence outside the university, according to ‘Criteria for providing housing assistance to Walailak University personnel in case of not being allocated accommodation within the university’.

In 2022, the university has 2,535 employees, categorized as follows:

  • Administrative staff: 154 people
  • Academic staff: 592 people
  • Professional and general staff: 1,042 people
  • Temporary employees: 191 people
  • Contractual employees: 71 people
  • Temporary employees (daily wage): 485 people

Furthermore, Walainivaas 5th employees’ dormitory has been providing services to the university’s staff since 2021. In 2022, it continued to serve staff and accommodate the university’s expansion and the increased number of employees. The building of 96 furnished rooms was designed for unmarried employees and equipped with basic facilities such as: water dispensers, washing machines, and co-op working and relaxing spaces, and security alarms. Following the guideline ‘Residential University’, during 2021-2022, the university also provided housing welfare benefits and facilities to ensure that employees would live in an inexpensive and well-furnished, equipped with good facilities. In addition, the university has been repairing and renovating staff housing, improving the Smart Farm staff housing, and expediting the maintenance of both student and staff dormitories. This is done to provide students and staff with a comfortable living environment at the university and promote the dormitory system for both students and staff.

Employees are exempt from paying housing fees for the initial five years, with the exception of water and electricity charges. After five years, any employees that request to stay will be charged to accommodate on monthly housing fees. The applicable rates can be found below.

    • Single room 700 baht per month (Walainivas 1,2,3, and 4)
