Pedestrian Prioritization on Campus at WU

Pedestrian Prioritization on Campus at WU

The total number of pedestrian routes and pavements on campus at WU is 54, including covered walkways. Walailak University, through the Division of Landscaping and Building, is responsible for the construction and maintenance of pedestrian routes and pavements. Walking is one of the sustainable commuting practices that WU has put into the Action Plan on Sustainable Commuting Targets 2022 and 2025. Walailak University has constructed pedestrian routes and pavements across the campus, including the lecture building zone, dormitory zone, food canteen zone, academic building zone, WU Park, WU Hospital zone, Botanic Park zone, staff dormitory zone, sports complex zone, and others.

WU has been improving pedestrian footpaths to demonstrate being a green and sustainable university since its foundation. The population at WU is increasing significantly. However, WU has multiple sustainable commuting practices, and one of them is using pedestrian routes. What WU has been improving for pedestrians includes:

  1. Monitoring and repairing all pedestrians across campus
  2. Establishing a more low-energy LED lighting system
  3. Campaigning to encourage the Walailak community to use more pedestrians
  4. Establishing more walking signs
  5. Improving the walking atmosphere with beautiful scenarios
