New Buildings at WU with EIT Standards

Walailak University prioritizes sustainability standards in constructing new buildings. Consequently, WU adheres to EIT Standard (the Engineering Institute of Thailand under His Majesty the King’s Patronage) to build new buildings. In 2022, the construction was carried out based on EIT Standard for the following building construction projects, including:

  • Construction and renovation of the Sports and Health Center, badminton court (Contract No. 033/2565, signed on 18/02/2565, delivery due on 16/07/2565, contract amount 26,300,000 Baht).

The Renovation of Station Studio Building

Moreover, the University improves building maintenance systems according to international university standards. In addition, the university operates internal construction under the supervision of WU’s architects and engineers, who have professional licenses, and affiliate with the Division of Landscaping and Building. The construction and operation were controlled by the Engineering Institute of Thailand under His Majesty the King’s Patronage (EIT Standard). However, construction means constructing a new building and modifying, demolishing, improving, installing, and extending the existing building or other structures.

WU, in order to improve the health and safety environment of students and staff, has installed and maintained both Fire Alarm system and fire extinguishing systems within the Research Institute for Health Sciences, The Center for Scientific and Technological Equipment building 3, Aquatic Operation Zone, and student dormitories under the suitability and building safety laws. Additionally, in consideration of suitability, each type of fire extinguisher has contained in each building as follows:

  1. Dry chemical extinguishers were installed in school buildings, office buildings, and general buildings.
  2. Carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguishers were installed in the Center for Digital Technology.
  3. Clean Agent Fire Extinguishers (BF2000), environmental-friendly (NON-CFC), were installed in the Research Institute for Health Sciences.

Additionally, there is an inspection of the readiness of the fire extinguishers every month, a maintenance plan, and training to prepare for the use of employees according to the university policy to ensure safety in life and property.

The building structure will be designed to support the use for maximum safety following the Engineering Institute of Thailand under His Majesty the King’s Patronage (EIT Standard). Further, premises are designed to accommodate the use of people with disabilities by building handicap ramps and lifts within Walailak University Hospital, Lecture Building 6, Research Institute for Health Sciences. Besides, Laksananives dormitories 16, 17, 18, Academic Building 7, and Academic Building 8 have provided handicap ramps and toilets to accommodate those with disabilities.

As a result of the university’s adherence to the sustainable action plan, in 2022, the Center for Library Resources and Educational Media building was selected to meet the Building Energy Code (BEC) standard, which is set by Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, Ministry of Energy.
