In 2022, Walailak University collaborated with various healthcare institutions at the local and national levels, including the Health Systems Research Institute (HSRI), the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Sichon Hospital, Koh Samui Hospital, and the NHSO Region 11 Office. Their memorandum of understanding promotes the development of telehealth technology for patient care in the upper southern region. The initiative aims to advance information technology and apply telehealth to patient care, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, which accelerated the adoption of information technology to reduce the need for patients to travel to healthcare facilities.

Health Systems Research Institute (HSRI) supported a project related to the development of telehealth technology for the care of patients with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. This project aimed to develop telehealth technology in collaboration with Walailak University, with support from the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). Hospitals such as Sichon Hospital, Koh Samui Hospital, and the NHSO Region 11 Office were also involved in this effort to facilitate the implementation of telehealth technology.

The project team, operating under the Center of Excellence in Data Science for Health Science, has been working on the development of telehealth technology for the care of patients with type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure. This initiative has involved collaborative research with a team of researchers from Sichon Hospital in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. With the hospital director and various personnel, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and information technology staff, a project meeting and progress discussion took place at Sichon Hospital, Sichon District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, which is one of the project’s study and research areas. They also cooperated in planning research projects to utilize telehealth technology in caring for the health of patients with type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure, aiming to benefit users to the maximum extent.

For global health institution collaboration, WU welcomed a delegation from the Overseas Medical Mission Center of Changhua Christian Hospital in Taiwan. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss collaboration in the development of teaching, training, and staff development projects in the field of health sciences. This collaboration goes hand in hand with the development of Walailak University Hospital. Representatives from both parties discussed medical research and education projects expected to be conducted jointly, such as medical training programs, staff training initiatives, knowledge sharing in medical technology, and student exchange programs.
