The Meaningful Education around the SDGs, Applicable to All Students

Walailak University aims to be a model for a sustainable and green university providing education on the SDGs to all students through general education courses. WU integrates the SDGs into all subjects to raise awareness of sustainability matters, including the environment, society, economy, and others. Students are the world’s future generation who will make the world a better place. Thus, Walailak University sets its commitment to equip graduates with a better understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals, the 20-year National Strategy, and the National Economic and Social Development Plan.

In order to demonstrate being a sustainable university, Walailak University has a mission to provide education on SDGs to all students through general education courses in which the students can develop their learning capacity in various dimensions. The general education courses are developed by different schools at WU to ensure all students get knowledge in various dimensions, such as technology, health, society, environmental conservation, economy, innovation, and so on. The schools that develop the courses include the School of Languages and General Education, the School of Informatics, the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Management, and the School of Engineering and Technology.

Walailak University has a commitment to meaningful education around the SDGs across the university that is applicable to all students. One of the policies of WU to portray WU as a sustainable university is to have SDGs as an integral part of the course specification in every subject. Since WU adopts the Thai Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (TQF) to standardize the course plan and ensure quality education, one obligation concerning WU TQF is that all WU lecturers from all schools must integrate SDGs into their courses.

The above figures exemplify the use of SDG-integrated TQF course plan, taken from a course titled “Fishery Biology” developed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonsak Sawusdee, Lecturer of the School of Science, Walailak University.

WU aims to equip graduates with the ability to truly understand the Sustainable Development Goals, the 20-year National Strategy, and the National Economic and Social Development Plan. In 2022, the number of sustainability-integrated courses at Walailak University was 1,733 courses with 2,460 curricula.

In addition, Walailak University has developed a website to show all subjects integrated with sustainable development matters, including economy, society, culture, and environment. The information on all subjects can be seen at the link below:
