Specific Courses on Sustainability at WU

It has been six years since Walailak University adopted and integrate the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals into education. WU has been encouraging students in all degrees of study to recognize the global challenges to be tackled, including climate change, loss of biodiversity, unsustainable use of resources, and inequality. At the moment, higher educational institutions are one of the key players in promoting SDG to the young generation through various platforms and SDG-integrated education is one of them.  

 Bachelor’s Degrees

1. THB60-11 Sustainable Tourism (SDG 14 and 15)

This course aims for students to study the concepts and principles of sustainable tourism; regulations, planning, and monitoring of sustainable tourism management, especially operational analysis of tourism and hotel businesses; components and types of sustainable tourism; tourism impact and sustainable tourism development strategies; and includes an educational field-work.

2. MKT62-315 Venture Growth Strategy for Sustainability (SDG 1)

This course covers the concepts of sustainable business growth strategy, funding and customer value management for venture growth, and competitive advantage creation. Students have to understand the process of developing business skills and competencies for sustainable growth, including change management to handle the changing dynamic of the current business environment.

3. ARC59-353 Sustainable Architectural and Urban Design (SDG 11)

Basic concepts of environmental design for different related levels: from city and community to neighborhood and specific sites; study the environmental crisis, as well as lessons from vernacular architecture that were climate responsive and environmentally concerned leading to sustainable architecture and urban design; principles of tropical buildings and urban design which are shaped by nature and influential factors that set the comfort zone.

4. OCC61-314 Sustainable Community Health Management (SDG 3)

Concepts of community health development by applying of holistic paradigm; community practice with the application of community-based study and community health management; participatory development in public health, focusing on environmental health and occupational health, and harmonizing with community need and demand.

5. OCC62-315 Sustainable Occupational and Community Health Management (SDG 3)

This course provides concepts of primary occupational and community health development by applying of holistic paradigm; community practice with the application of community-based study and community health management; participatory development in safety, occupational and public health, and harmonizing with community need and demand.

6. OCC62-183 Sustainable Development Activities (SDG 17)

This course provides principles of sustainable development Corporative social responsibility; critical elements of corporative social responsibility initiative; social engagement strategies; corporate ethics; global sustainability and reporting initiative; millennium development goal; case studies and field trip issues on corporative social responsibility.

Master’s Degrees

ESH 65 – 625 Occupational and Environmental Health Sustainability (SDG 3)

This course focuses on goals for sustainable development; giving priority to health and environment; smart city indicators: smart environment, smart living, smart people; and case studies of occupational and environmental health sustainability.

MNM63-613   Sustainability for Business Management (SDG 1)

This subject explores the challenges and opportunities facing entrepreneurship in the area of environmental, socio-cultural, and economic for sustainable business management. An introduction to sustainability business will be provided at the beginning. Topics included are sustainable environmental design, sustainable organizational immersion, sustainable value chains, and communications for businesses. Various business management approaches from successful entrepreneurs will be employed as the case study so that students can design, plan, and develop projects for sustainable business initiatives.
