The Enhancement of Agriculturist’s Skills in OTOP Product Manufacturing and Management, under the “University to Tambon Project (U2T)”: Walailak University, Nakhon Si Thammarat

Between March 30 – May 31, 2021, Walailak University, Nakhon Si Thammarat had held an activity aimed at the agriculturist’s skill enhancement in product and production management placed importance on product safety and quality by organizing a fieldwork for setting up a meeting in order to keep track of the progress in the agriculturist’s skill enhancement and product management. The activity was one of the schemes of the skill-development project for career enhancement: “University to Tambon”.

In Nakhon Si Thammarat, there was an activity called “Career Enhancement and Development” aimed at developing the agriculturist’s skill in product and production management placed importance on product safety and quality with career improvement corresponding to the theory, information technology and supply chain management which helped to generate income and produce proficient products for the community. Moreover, it could help to enhance the level of district society and support the career development, sufficiency economy and small and micro community enterprise.

Furthermore, the purposes of the project conformed to “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in SDG1, SDG8 and SDG17 which were “No Poverty”, “Decent Work and Economic Growth” increasing the rate of employment and “Partnerships for The Goals creating collaboration networks with the communities and other organizations respectively.

 In this regard, the staff of teachers from School of Science and School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry visited the communities for technology transfer in agriculture goods management placed importance on product safety and quality, responding to the agriculturists’ requests. The patterns of the technology transfer activities were as follows: 

  1. 1. Microbial Pesticide Using Activity

The staff of teachers had provided insights and knowledge in using microbial pesticide in an appropriate way, high quality and low cost in tambon Pa Rakum of Pakphanang District. 

  1. 2. Coastal Aquaculture

The staff of teachers gave counsel on coastal aquaculture management, good practice for post – harvest handling of fish and shellfish and the biological knowledge of coastal aquaculture to the fishermen from tambon Na Saton of Pak Phanang District.

  1. 3. The certification of “Good Agricultural Practice” or “GAP”

The staff of teachers gave counsel on the certification of “Good Agricultural Practice” or “GAP”, involving in good practices in every step in production of agricultural products and good agricultural practices for pig farm to the pig farmers in tambon Thai Buri of Tha Sala District.  

The staff will use such information to develop group management system and financial management group with the aim of extending marketing channels, such as online or offline channel in the next step of its operation.
