Sustainable Blue Swimming Crab Fisheries and Business Management Training

Walailak University’s Center for Academic Services plays a crucial role in supporting local business sustainability. One of its key initiatives includes training programs aimed at skill development for entrepreneurs and fishery businesses, ensuring responsible and sustainable business practices.

In 2023, this program was designed in response to the needs of fishermen, seafood entrepreneurs, and individuals interested in launching businesses related to blue swimming crabs. The training targeted local fishermen, business owners, recent graduates, and students seeking expertise in sustainable aquaculture.

The workshop, conducted via Zoom online meetings, was free of charge and aimed at enhancing skills in crab fisheries management and business sustainability. The free-for-all curriculum included six core courses:

  1. Sustainable and Responsible Crab Fishing Practices – Adhering to international Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) standards.
  2. Aquaculture Technology for Blue Swimming Crabs – Implementing best practices in breeding and farming.
  3. Value Addition in Seafood Products – Developing high-value crab products with strong market appeal.
  4. Financial and Accounting Management – Enhancing financial literacy and strategic planning.
  5. Sustainable Product Design – Utilizing eco-friendly and innovative packaging methods.
  6. Friendly Marketing for Fisheries Products – Leveraging digital and traditional marketing strategies.
This initiative was structured to equip local communities with business management skills relevant to the fishing industry. It integrated responsible fishing techniques, aquaculture innovation, and product development, ensuring alignment with sustainability principles. Additionally, the training strengthened financial literacy, cost management, and market expansion strategies, empowering participants to build resilient and sustainable businesses.
