Walailak University Students Surveys Pla Kob Products of Ban Takhian Dam Community Enterprise under the Community Enterprise Enhancement Project
Walailak University initiated a project to elevate community enterprises, focusing on the Pla Kob (a type of fish named Shortnose gizzard shad) products of the Ban Takhian Dam community enterprise group. This endeavor was led by students from the School of Accountancy and Finance, in collaboration with the Center for Academic Services.
The team conducted market surveys at Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan in Mueang District and Wat Chedi in Sichon District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. They offered tourists samples of sun-dried fried Pla Kob, spicy salad with sun-dried Pla Kob, and seasoned Pla Kob bones, gathering feedback through taste tests and questionnaires. The insights gained will inform future support strategies for the Ban Takhian Dam community enterprise group.
The project’s objectives include empowering local communities, community enterprises, and local startups with knowledge of innovative product development and business practicality analysis; preparing these groups to be competitive in the market; and providing students with opportunities to apply classroom knowledge in real-world business settings. This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 1: No Poverty, by supporting local communities in establishing sustainable businesses through university resources; Goal 2: Zero Hunger, by enhancing access to knowledge, skills, or technology related to food security; and Goal 4: Quality Education, by organizing educational activities that promote equal learning opportunities.
