Walailak University Launches ‘Just Say No (To Plastic Bags)’ Project with ‘Paint and Post’ Activity to Address SDGs

Walailak University (WU) recently organized the “Paint and Post” activity under the “Just Say No (To Plastic Bags)” project to promote environmental conservation. This initiative was a collaboration between the Center for Library Resources and Educational Media, the Center for Academic Services, and student members of the WU Marine Conservation Club, highlighting the university’s commitment to fostering student-led societal engagement.
Held at the Level 1 atrium of the Center for Library Resources and Educational Media, the event was participated by students, staff, and university personnel. Participants engaged in painting cloth bags and crafting items from daily recyclables, aiming to reduce plastic waste within the university. To encourage involvement, attendees were invited to paint a cloth bag, then post a short caption and take a photo of their creation on Facebook with the hashtags #justsaynoplasticswu, #SeaConservationClub, #SDG, and #WU, and set the post to public.
This activity is part of the “Collaborative Project to Enhance the Efficiency of Waste Management in the University’s Surrounding Areas for the Year 2024,” led by Mr. Phusit Horpet. It aligns with the university’s policies on proper waste and hazardous waste management. The initiative emphasizes correct waste management practices among students and staff, aiming to reduce plastic waste and enhance environmental quality. By promoting sustainable waste management, the project contributes to strengthening communities and advancing sustainable development, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
