Parking Areas and Programs to Limit or Reduce Parking Space on Campus
Walailak University has designated parking areas accounting for less than one percent of the university’s total area. This is in line with the university’s policy to reduce the use of private vehicles and to promote the adoption of electric shuttle services for students and staff instead. Consequently, certain parking areas have been repurposed into spaces for student extracurricular activities and community engagement. Examples include the “Open World of Activities” event in 2025, where a parking area was transformed into the Next Gen Learning Building; the weekly “Jan Pradu Market” held every Monday evening at the parking lot near academic buildings; the BOTA Market organized every Thursday; outdoor movie screenings at the Botanical Garden parking area; and the Khlong Din Market held every Tuesday. Parking areas are also utilized to accommodate major events, such as the Royal Commencement Ceremony.
Walailak University covers a total area of 15,350,400 square meters, with designated parking areas amounting to 27,777.32 square meters.

Parking Space Reduction and Sustainable Mobility Initiatives at Walailak University
Over the past three years, Walailak University has focused on reducing the number of internal combustion engine vehicles on campus, alongside decreasing the overall parking space. Several parking areas have been repurposed into academic buildings and outdoor activity spaces. At the same time, the University has actively promoted the practice of parking only in designated areas among students, staff, and visitors. As a result, by 2025, the University successfully reduced parking space by 30.67% through the following measures:
Reduction and Reallocation of Campus Parking Areas
Walailak University has undertaken the reduction and reallocation of parking spaces within the campus. Certain parking areas have been repurposed for the construction of new academic buildings serving students and staff. Additionally, the parking area near the sports complex has been transformed into a daily exercise zone for the university community.
Furthermore, some parking spaces adjacent to academic buildings have been converted into weekly community markets, including the Chanpradoo Market (every Monday evening), BOTA Market (every Thursday), and Khlong Din Market (every Tuesday). These areas are also utilized for various university events such as the annual Graduation Ceremony and other co-curricular and extracurricular activities held regularly throughout the past three years.

Parking Sticker System and Access Control
A sticker system has been introduced to regulate access to parking areas, whereby only vehicles with designated stickers are permitted to park in specified zones. This measure has effectively reduced the number of cars on campus.
In addition, the University has launched a strict parking regulation campaign titled “Strict Lock, Strict Fine”, which includes awareness parades at key service points to remind violators. Enforcement measures include wheel locking and fines for non-compliance, with dedicated officers stationed at control points to monitor parking behavior closely.
Furthermore, the Division of Student Promotion and Development has reinforced helmet safety campaigns for motorcycle users at campus checkpoints. Data collected indicate that 86.17% of riders complied by wearing helmets, while 13.83% did not. Non-compliant riders received verbal warnings and were recorded for further disciplinary action.

Bicycle Rental Services
Bicycle rental services are also available, encouraging short-distance travel within the campus. This service enhances accessibility to various campus areas while minimizing parking demand.
Over the past three years, Walailak University has successfully implemented a program to limit or reduce on-campus parking areas, achieving a reduction of more than 30% decrease in parking area. This initiative not only addresses parking challenges but also promotes social activities and fosters a healthier environment for students and staff, making the university a more livable and sustainable campus.
