However, placing emphasis on collaboration with health institutions at the local, national, and global levels is another crucial approach that helps strengthen operational capacity, foster the integration of knowledge, diagnostic and health innovations, and promote community engagement. Altogether, these efforts will lead to more effective, measurable, and sustainable outcomes.
Consequently, WU plays a crucial role in improving health and well-being outcomes, developing and promoting public health through collaborations with health institutions at local, national, and global levels. These partnerships not only enhance the capabilities and development of medical professionals and students but also elevate healthcare standards, strengthen diagnostic and measurement systems, and create a positive impact on healthcare services at a broader scale.
Local Collaborations
In 2024, Walailak University established health collaborations with over 100 local health institutions to enhance knowledge and strengthen the capacity of medical personnel, students, and the community. These collaborations encompassed teaching and learning, research activities, memoranda of understanding (MOUs), study visits, and the provision of practical training sites for nursing education.
WU has established collaborations with local health institutions to enhance knowledge and develop the capacities of medical personnel, students, and communities. The university has received collaboration from 14 hospitals in organizing professional training for fourth-year Thai Traditional Medicine students across southern, eastern, and northeastern regions of Thailand. This initiative allows students to integrate their knowledge with real-world clinical experiences in diverse settings.
Additionally, WU collaborates with Trang Medical Education Center and Vachira Phuket Medical Education Center to develop and train medical students in the Doctor of Medicine program, focusing on educational management for fourth to sixth-year medical students. Also, the Vachira Phuket Medical Education Center hosts the “Cross-Island Welcoming Event”, strengthening relationships between WU’s medical students and Vachira Phuket Hospital.
Furthermore, WU collaborations with Thung Song Hospital and Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital by conducting graduate physician visits to collect feedback and recommendations, which are used to refine and enhance the Doctor of Medicine program, ensuring it aligns with the evolving needs of the healthcare sector.
National Collaborations
Walailak University has established health collaborations with more than 10 national-level health institutions. In 2024, the university signed a formal agreement with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) to jointly develop health promotion programs in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. The collaboration emphasizes the prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and the strengthening of healthcare systems.
ThaiHealth also provides funding for the School of Nursing to support projects such as “Provincial-Level Management Units for Expanding Small-Scale Health Promotion Programs in Nakhon Si Thammarat” and “Developing Community-Based Elderly Care Systems and Innovations”. These projects aim to advance community health knowledge and promote sustainable well-being.
Additionally, WU, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and ThaiHealth, supports the Healthy Living Program, which promotes workplace wellness by improving the quality of life for employees and reducing health risks in occupational settings.
Global Collaborations
Walailak University has established healthcare collaborations with more than 10 international health institutions. In 2024, the university further expanded these partnerships, emphasizing the exchange of expertise, medical technologies, and innovative healthcare solutions.
AI Technology and Smart Hospital Study Visit in Taiwan
Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Changhua Christian Hospital in Taiwan and Walailak University, represented by Walailak University Hospital, both institutions have continuously implemented joint activities to improve health and well-being outcomes. The collaboration is founded on a “Sisterhood” relationship with the primary goal of enhancing healthcare services for the people of both parties.
After MOU, WU and Changhua Christian Hospital have been working together to improve health and well-being outcomes. In 2024, WU and Changhua Christian Hospital have worked together to explore medical technology innovations, including Nursing Information System, AI Development, Hospital Quality Management, Human Milk Management, Medical 3D Printing, and Smart Nursing Stations, with the shared objective of developing Walailak University Hospital into a Smart Hospital that integrates advanced technology to improve efficiency and service quality.
Moreover, the institutions comprehensively exchange health-related information and promote the professional development of healthcare personnel through study visits, seminars, training programs, and staff exchanges based on equality and mutual benefit.
Global Health Academy Program with Nuvance Health, USA
Walailak University, through the School of Medicine, continues to strengthen its partnership with Nuvance Health, a leading healthcare network in the United States, under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) through the Global Health Academy Program. The collaboration provides valuable opportunities for medical personnel and students from both institutions to exchange medical knowledge and experience, while developing essential competencies such as cross-cultural understanding to enhance the quality and effectiveness of patient care in diverse contexts. Furthermore, medical students gain firsthand experience and deep insights into healthcare systems operating under different cultural settings. In addition to their clinical experience at Walailak University Medical Center Hospital, students have the opportunity to work alongside physicians from Nuvance Health hospitals. This enables them to observe and understand both the similarities and differences in medical practice between Thailand and the United States comprehensively.
Additionally, WU actively participates in global health conferences such as the 3rd Global Health Conference and the 2nd Global Summit on Public Health, where international partnerships and healthcare research collaborations are discussed.
To sum up, WU’s healthcare collaborations span across local, national, and global levels, supporting medical education, public health promotion, and technological advancements. These partnerships contribute to developing highly skilled healthcare professionals and positioning the university as a key player in global health initiatives. By fostering sustainable healthcare systems, WU continues to make a lasting impact on Thailand’s public health sector and beyond.
